Lovely spring like day wasn't it. I wore shorts the first time this year, Sparky Dave as usual was dressed in readiness for the weather to turn to snow - thermals rain coat, thick winter gloves. Snow was something I though unlikely. Colin who is generally mud averse went along with my suggestion to go to Sharpenhoe. I promised him it was good tracks and bridlepaths all the way.

We started fine. Didn't get lost at all my GPS directing me well. After a couple of styles and one bit of footpath we pushed on under the railway line and over the hill. On the descent ouch - Colin broke his chain. Not too bad 15 mins in the sunshine. We were just about to set off - and Sparky discovers a flat front. Change that big thorn in the tyre (the tyres on his stump are "S WorkS" the look nice and light but are jonny thin.

Now having lost half an hour Colin decides to go home we are going to do a few more miles. We do about another 5 and then Dave announces a flat back tyre. So we use my inner tube to do that. We pump it up and find that it too has now been punctured in the same place as the other one!

3 punctures for Dave. I mend two inner tubes sitting by the side of the road.

The return leg I am pushing hard all the way back along the road trying to pursuade Dave to follow my wheel.

Nice and sunny but not a satisfying afternoon at all.
